So why start another Overland channel you may ask?, There are so many Overlanding Channels, what makes this one any different.

Have you ever experienced the excitement that traveling brings.

That wonder lust discovering new places, the exhilaration exploring well know, and not so well known, interesting places.

Threw travels, one experiences excitement, different spaces and time, which are removed from normal mundane daily life.

One is exposed, when travelling, to Fatigue, Frustrations, Challenges, Excitement, Adventure.

All that said, traveling gives time to reset from the daily mennonites of life, discover new and fascinating cultures, places, and if one traveling in nature, the opportunity to reenergize.

That much said, so what is different about Panoramic Photo Arts Overlanding Channel.

Panoramic Photo Arts Overlanding focuses on a quest to discover breathtaking Landscapes.

To document, old or newly found Landscapes, using a normal digital camera.

This done threw a method of 360° Panoramic Photography, that anyone can do, and to share with you the journey and discoveries of different exquisite Landscapes Treasures in our world.

My name is Andy Carr, and your host, join Panoramic Photo Arts 4×4 Overland, on this quest to discover Landscape Treasure.

I only realized in the last few years while developing Panoramic Photo Arts, that I actually really have a passion for Landscapes.

Its as if one, when viewing a breathtaking landscape, adds depth, breath, and different dimensions, and time, to ones life.

One can experience so many different moods, be it tranquil, angry, turbulent, or soft gentle atmospheres, while observing different Landscapes.

This speaks to ones soul, reminding us of the wonders of nature, and the beautiful World we live in.

Document these newly discovered exquisite landscapes, using 360° Panoramic Photography Methodology, travel along, share the experience and adventures of this quest, for the search for breathtaking Landscapes.

2026

2nd July Thursday 2026

We start our 2026 travels, setting off from Melkbosstrand Cape Town, along the N7 to Vanrynsdop, then turning off to Niewoudville in the Northern Cape.

We are traveling in Odie our trusted old Land Cruiser.

Odie has 490 000 km on the clock and has taken us in search for scenic landscape adventures, throughout South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Angola, and Mozambique.

On route to and around Niewoudville, there are some very interesting places to visit, with spectacular Landscapes to document and explore.

The first Landscapes Treasure of interest will be the Boland wheat fields, with Kasteelberg, Table Mountain, Paarl Mountain and the Drakenstein Mountains to the east of the N7.

Its always a joy when driving to Malmsbury from Melkbosstrand, coming over the rise of the Botterberg Hill, seeing the open expanse of the Boland, looking North.

Then on along the N7 to Vanrhyn Dorp, via Pieketberg, Citrus Dal, Clanwilliam, then turning right to the Vanryns Pass.

This pass is 9km long and climbs some 595 meters to the Bokkeveld Plateau.

Nivoudville is famous and known as the “Bulb Capital of the World, as it is a internationally renowned botanical destination, for its spring flowers.

It is not well known however that Niewoudville has a second flower season in March.

This is when the March lily’s bloom if good rains have fallen in the early autumn.

Neiwoudville is also known for, in my opinion one of the best Quiver Tree Forrests ever, located on the Gannabos farm.

Another interesting attraction is the Niewoudville Falls situated on the Doring River.

The Falls are 100 meters high, and is certainly worth a visit, especially viewed after some winter rains.

Overnighting just outside of Niewoudville, on Willems Riviera Trek Pad Farm.

3rd Friday 2026

We left Niewoudville, traveling north to Loeriesfontein, then hit gravel road onto Brandvlei, and then overnight at Van Wyk’s Vlei, some 390km travel distance to Van Wyk’s Vlei.

Now this part of South Africa, the does not seem to be any interesting landscapes to photographically document. The land is mostly flat and uninteresting.

Its as if one needs to befriend a local to the area, who im sure would advise as to interesting mountain pass or river gorges to photograph.

4th Saturday

Travel to Kathu 425km from Van Wyk’s Vlei, where we overnighted with an old frend which we had not seen for some 32 years, Marius, and got to meet his beautiful family.

After watching the Rugby, where South Africa beat England, we went to bed far too late.

5th Sunday

Had lunch with one of my daughters friend, Mon, who is doing her speech therapist internship in Kuruman .

322km to Lichtenburg.

6th Monday July

Visited the Lichtenburg library, as we had heard that it housed one of the best art collections in South Africa. We arrive to discover that most of the art had been removed, for safety purposes, and are no longer on exhibit.

Then on to Pretoria some 244km, via Krugersdorp to Meano Conversions, who built Odie into a double cab bakkie (pick up) in 2005, to get a quotation on extending the load bin.

7th Tuesday

Got up early to take out AHA Camper to be serviced at the AHA factory just outside Pretoria.

Live in a 360° World

20 May 2024

Depart Melkbosstrand, Cape Town, to travel to St Lucia, Kosi Bay in KZN South Africa via Knysna, Gqeberha, East London, Eastern Cape and Durban.

Then on the Mozambique and back to South Africa via the Giriyondo Border Post between South Africa and Mozambique midway in the Kruger National Park.

First stop Heidelberg in the Cape at Andries & Louise Kluyts, Star Nation Studio, to do much needed repairs to Odie our faithful Toyota Land Cruiser, with Philupus at the Werkswinkel next door.

Odie’s glow plugs and glow plug timer needed replacing after 455 000 km, all the while under the watchful eye of Bat Cat.

23rd May

Andries and I did a delivery of barn doors on a farm near Lady Smith and ended up heading home via Barrydale, so beautiful.

24th May

Off to Knysna to catch up with long time last seen friends Garry and Sharon Laughton for a stay over, on route to Gqeberha.

27th May

Arrive at the campsite in East London Yellow Sands.

31st May

On route to Balungula Backpackers, where we had to book into a chalet, as the weather was changing to rain. One would think that the weather would be great this time of year, as it’s not supposed to rain much in June, but we are in for a wet adventure through the Easter Cape.

At this stage of the game just been taking Panos with my phone.

Using one’s phone to take Panos is so easy and the results some times can be brilliant.

At Balungula one has to walk about 500m from a car park to the lodge.

On leaving it started to bucket with rain, and we where drenched by the time we got to the Odie.

1st June 2024

Heading to Mdumbi Backpackers, and the storm hit. Winds of at least 40 knots+ and torrential rains. We were supposed to be camping.

Again we had to book into a chalet, and did not move for two days as it bucketed with rain.

2nd June 2024

Mdumbi still bucketing with rain, luckily we managed to book into a chalet again, supposed to be camping.

Two day later we surfaced after 48 hours of torrential rains and 40 knot winds to end up taking a stunning pano of cows in a field resting after the rains.
